BTCD offers an alternative to USD-pegged assets by using BTC as collateral

BTCFi platform Elastos has introduced BTCD, a stablecoin backed by bitcoin. Unlike most stablecoins pegged to the US dollar and secured by fiat or government bonds, BTCD relies on the leading cryptocurrency — BTC.The project draws inspiration from the Bretton Woods agreement, which cemented the dollar’s dominance in the mid-20th century, but reimagines it with bitcoin as the core asset.To mitigate volatility, Elastos employs overcollateralization: each BTCD is backed by BTC worth 160% to 200% of its value. Bitcoin’s price is updated in each block via oracles. If the coverage drops to 110%, arbitrageurs can redeem BTCD and buy BTC at a slight discount, helping maintain system stability.The algorithm adjusts BTCD supply through issuance and burning based on market demand, making the model self-balancing.Interest in the BTCFi sector is growing: total value locked in bitcoin-based applications has exceeded $6.4 billion, ranking just behind Ethereum and Solana ecosystems, according to DeFi Llama. The largest project remains Babylon Protocol with $4.9 billion in TVL.

CZ believes that the crypto market is going through a period of rapid growth

Bitcoin could reach $500,000 or even $1 million in the current market cycle. This prediction was made by Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) in an interview with Farokh Radio.The entrepreneur believes that in 2025, the total crypto market capitalization will exceed $5 trillion. However, CZ did not specify the exact timeline for reaching these figures.This is not his first optimistic forecast. Back in 2020, Zhao predicted Bitcoin’s rise to $100,000 — a target that was reached in December 2024.In February 2025, he jokingly hinted at the $1 million potential, making fun of the “crash” from $1,001,000 to $985,000.At the time of writing, the BTC price is $97,184, and the total crypto market capitalization is approximately $3.098 trillion.In the conversation, CZ also described meme coins as “speculative noise” and predicted the collapse of 99.99% of them. At the same time, he highlighted promising areas such as blockchain integration with AI and the development of decentralized science (DeSci).Zhao pointed out the sharp change in the U.S. regulatory climate after Donald Trump came to power:“In 100 days, the situation turned 180 degrees,” he noted.CZ also predicted the dominance of decentralized exchanges over centralized ones, calling them “different doors to the same world.”

Bitcoin can reach $1 million in this market cycle

Cipollone called for the introduction of a digital euro as a strategic initiative to preserve the monetary sovereignty of the eurozone.In his April 8 statement published on the ECB’s website, he emphasized that the digital euro should limit the potential for foreign currency stablecoins to become the primary medium of exchange in the eurozone.This is not his first public comment on the matter. Cipollone has repeatedly warned about the risks associated with dependence on external payment providers — particularly stablecoins and international payment systems. According to him, such reliance threatens the EU’s economic autonomy.Despite the ECB’s persistence, the digital euro initiative faces criticism from European consumers, particularly due to concerns about privacy. According to a document released in March, many Europeans do not see a significant benefit to the introduction of a central bank digital currency.
